"Without losing quality" really means "without a loss you can see". Every lossy format discards some data; the goal is to discard only what the eye will not miss. Three levers do most of the work: the right format, a sensible quality setting, and the right dimensions.
1. Resize before you compress
An image displayed at 800 px wide does not need to be 4000 px wide. Downscaling to the size it will actually appear at is the single biggest, completely invisible saving you can make. Use the Image Resizer first.
2. Pick the format that fits the picture
Photographs compress best as JPEG or WebP. Flat graphics, screenshots and anything needing transparency belong in PNG or WebP. See PNG vs JPG vs WebP for the details.
3. Tune the quality slider by eye
Open the Image Compressor, drop the quality until you can just notice a difference in the preview, then nudge it back up one step. For most photos that lands around 70–82. Compress once from the original — re-saving a JPEG repeatedly stacks up losses.
4. Consider WebP
At the same visual quality, WebP files are usually 25–35% smaller than JPEG or PNG. If your audience uses modern browsers (almost everyone), it is a safe default.
