What Is This Tool?
This tool re-encodes your image at a lower quality and, optionally, a smaller size, then reports exactly how many bytes you saved. JPEG and WebP have a real quality dial; PNG is lossless so its saving comes mainly from the optional width cap and re-encoding. Everything is computed locally with the canvas API.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which format gives the smallest file?
For photos, WebP is usually smallest at a given visual quality, followed by JPEG. PNG is lossless and best kept for flat graphics, screenshots and images that need transparency.
What quality should I choose?
Start at 75–80 and lower it until you can just start to see a difference in the preview, then step back up one notch. Most photos look fine around 70–80.
Why did PNG barely get smaller?
PNG is lossless, so re-encoding alone changes little. The main way to shrink a PNG here is the width cap, or converting it to WebP.
Does compressing repeatedly make it worse?
Yes, for lossy formats. Each JPEG/WebP save discards a little more detail. Compress once from the original whenever you can.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser.
